Islands · Spain
Turquoise coves, honey-coloured villages and the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana — Mallorca combines Mediterranean ease with refined island escapes.
In brief
Go to Mallorca in May–June or from September to early October: the sea is warm, the days are long and the crowds are smaller. The island pairs beach time with discovery: small coves early in the day, a sail along the cliffs, the villages of the Serra de Tramuntana and the Sóller train, and in Palma the cathedral Gaudí restored.
Travel by Ildy tip
Seek out Cala Deià, Cala Tuent and Caló des Moro early in the day. The smaller coves are most beautiful before the boats and peak-hour visitors arrive.

Travel tips
Travel by Ildy recommends
Mallorca is for travellers who do not want to choose between relaxing by the sea and discovering somewhere new. A gentle walk in the Tramuntana, a boat trip to a hidden cove, then a long lunch on a shaded terrace — the island is at its best in this unhurried variety.
