Travel by Ildy tips
- Get around central Pattaya by baht bus, the shared pickup-truck songthaew that runs a loop down Beach Road and back up Second Road; pay the small fixed fare as you get off, and agree a price first if you ask for a private ride.
- At Lan Pho Naklua market, next to Lan Pho park, buy live crab, prawns or fish from the stalls and have a nearby cook prepare them; it closes in the early evening, so make it lunch.
- Take an early ferry to Koh Larn and skip busy Tawaen beach for quieter ones such as Samae or Nual. Confirm the last boat back before you set off.
- The Sanctuary of Truth is built entirely of wood and hand-carved, with a tallest spire of 105 metres; begun in 1981, it is still unfinished, which is why visitors tour it wearing hard hats.
