February to April is usually the driest and most reliable; October to December are the wettest months, with the peak in November – a shorter wet spell than on Phuket's Andaman side.

Travel by Ildy tips
- Plan around the ring road, Route 4169, which circles the island and links Nathon, Bophut, Chaweng and Lamai. Shared songthaew pickups run along it and can be flagged down, but they thin out after dark, so arrange a taxi or scooter for evenings.
- Leave the coast road for the hilly interior, where coconut groves, durian orchards and rubber plantations still line the lanes, and drink a young coconut from a roadside stall.
- Avoid October to December, the wettest months (November alone averages about 445 mm of rain), and save the boat day to the Ang Thong archipelago for February to April, the driest stretch of the year.
- At Wat Khunaram, between Na Muang and Hua Thanon, the monk Luang Pho Daeng sits preserved in meditation posture: he died in 1973, having asked to be cremated if his body decayed and displayed if it did not, as a reminder of the Buddha's teaching.
