- If you travel on to Đà Nẵng or Hội An, take the train over the Hải Vân Pass: the nearly 21 km stretch along the Bạch Mã range is part of the regular Reunification line, takes about 40 minutes and looks out over Lăng Cô and Đà Nẵng bays.
- Order bánh bèo, a dish born in Huế: small steamed rice cakes served in a dozen tiny saucers, named after the floating pond plants whose round leaves they imitate.
- Reach Thiên Mụ Pagoda by boat on the Perfume River: founded in 1601, its seven-storey Phước Duyên tower is the city's unofficial symbol. Inside stands the Austin car that carried Thích Quảng Đức to Saigon in 1963.
- Hold a Huế nón bài thơ up to the light: between the two layers of leaves of this fine conical hat, a hidden verse or picture appears, visible only against the sun.
